Beltaine’s Springtime

Blooming apples and hawthorns, sweet aromas fill the air;
Springtime’s blossoms white as snow now gone,
Fresh as the dew, the fragrances waft past my nose,
Aromas on the breeze, carrying birdsongs to my ears…

Tree buds of pale yellow-greens and bronzes,
As looking down the woods, my eyes do explore,
Towards lake in the valley reflecting sky and trees on far shore,
Maples, willows and wild cherries, and more…

Springtime!  Ah, sweet springtime!
Followers of winter’s coldness and gray,
Time for healing and warmth, and love,
As May Day approaches, towards Beltaine we’ll stray…

Holiday of bright clothes, of dancing and mirth,
Of merrymaking with friends, honoring the Earth,
Wines and meads to consume, sweet cakes of grain,
Enjoyment and blessings, given and received…

May Apples up in abundance, American mandrake,
Violets, trout lilies, fragrant ferns rising sweet and green,
Wild ginger, blackberry briars, tender young leaves everywhere,
Promising abundance, nature’s bounty, of this space…

Birds, they are nesting, squirrels bearing their young,
Perhaps some of our Clan will bear child come Imbolc,
When festivities of Beltaine become full of the passion,
As leaves and blossoms swell, so do emotions of love…

Surveying the woodlands, freshly moistened with rains,
Gentle greens blush amongst browns of last autumn’s leaves;
Renewal, hope and promise of new life,
Things will continue for the Earth, forgetful of mankind’s strife…

Returning to the trailhead, sun’s orb low and glowing orangey-pink,
White dogwoods blooming, peep frogs noisily singing,
As geese settle onto the water, ending their day,
So, as with Nature’s wildlife, shall my dog, and I…
